My Gift Box Community Projects was founded when two volunteer community workers were contemplating the effectiveness of support work to vulnerable people.
They recognised that many of the decision makers were disconnected from the lived experiences of vulnerable people and wanted to enable projects that would empower and support people to use their life experiences and their gifts to participate in creative approaches of transformation for themselves and others.
My Gift Box Community Projects has been a registered charity since 2013 Reg. Charity Number 1152845 and has delivered community projects since then that develop the capacity of disadvantaged and socially isolated children, young people and vulnerable adults.
The name of the charity starts with the word My, identifying that every participant is unique with their own life experiences and gifts to contribute.
My Gift Box Community Projects is a vision of the power of shared learning and exchange of gifts through the empowerment of people with lived experiences, making decisions that help them to flourish and transform community.
Since our inception we have connected with hundreds of people with lived experiences, taking a creative approach to enterprise and empowerment facilitating transformed lives and communities. This has included eco-therapy, social enterprise, employability, community activities and craft-based projects.
We have renovated neglected spaces and transformed them into a reflective public garden, a craft shop, a community tea rooms and so much more, creating circular economy. We have been working with people from all ages and backgrounds and including people from backgrounds of homelessness, abuse, exclusion and disability.
We were very active throughout the pandemic, providing emergency response food parcels and buddying support for people experiencing social isolation. We aim to reduce food waste and tackle food poverty and are working on projects that provide access to green spaces, educational opportunities and support for diversionary interventions for people experiencing mental health issues.
